Apprentice Ron Schmidt cuts into Pepperwood

This class deals with various aspects of wood technology. Special emphasis on the use of locally growing timber. The class includes wood harvesting north of San Francisco with chainsaws and a portable Alaska Chainsaw mill. We will be looking for Black Locust, Pepperwood, Fir, White Oak, Eucalyptus, and Black Acacia.

Level

All levels of woodworking experience.

Dates

This class runs for three or four days... not necessarily consecutive. Sometimes the class camps out overnight to maximize time on site. If you wish to paricipate in the next class, call the School and ask if the next one has been scheduled.

Number of students

This class is attended by the Arques School's apprentices plus up to three additional students.

Tuition:

$350 (U.S.) per student. One-half payable in advance: Balance to the instructor on the first day of class.

Tool needs

Tools provided by the School. Students should bring a notebook and sturdy shoes or boots.

Instructor:

Robert Darr - a boatbuilder, designer, and teacher with over twenty years of experience. He has pioneered the use of Californian woods in boatbuilding.
